On Saturday August 21st, 2021 three NEMC Members, and their cars, joined 5 other cars in a display on Old Woodward Ave in Birmingham, Michigan. For many of the exhibitors it was their 14th consecutive year (minus, 2020 of course) displaying their cars on Old Woodward in Birmingham. We all missed Joe Papai who took care of us on Woodward the past many years. He would have really enjoyed this day with us as he always did.
On May 29, 2021 The Northeastern Michigan Chapter - SDC was finally able to get together after a long layoff due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Several Club Members, and their classic Studebakers, attended the VFW Midland Patriot Auto & Bike Show.

Studebaker Model Car Show
NEMSDC President Bob Mass's idea (a GREAT one!) for club participation in lieu of actual meetings.

9/12/2020 Int'l Drive Your Studebaker Day
NEM/SDC Members Bill Krueger & Barbara Barnes had a busy IDYSD Adventure. Who knew we’d run into Batman? Actually, the Batmobile. Not literally! Our trip south started innocently enough. As luck would have it, The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology – organizers of The EyesOn Design event in Detroit (actually Grosse Pointe Shores) – scheduled a “pop-up event” to cruise Lake Shore Road the Sunday after IDYSD. Looking for excuses to take a road trip, Barbara and I planned our Saturday drive to Metro Detroit. Once there, we’d run a few chores and visit a few of my old haunts. Our first stop was the Northville Watch and Clock Shop to pick up my Howard Miller regulator I’d dropped off a few weeks earlier for cleaning. The watchmaker loved my car and had to excuse herself from the store to come visit. While the watchmaker was still working, I promised her a cruise on our next trip. COVID-19 just has a way of interfering with life. I’d forgotten to bring sanitizer! CVS (drug store) was our next and unscheduled stop. With 9/11 fresh on our minds, the next Kodak Moment was an easy one. The summer after September 11, 2001, a local artist painted the American Flag on the back of the now-closed Marquis Theater. The Marquis once (1970s) sold $1 tickets to the second running of contemporary films. In 2010, Barbara and I saw a Doo Wop performance there. Yes, we really saw Smokey Robinson! Hey(!), it’s after Labor Day – so, cider and donuts - a must! Parmenter’s Cider Mill, once owned by my son-in-law’s grandparents, was right around the corner. Oops…many others had similar thoughts. No cider and donuts but we managed a photo op. An overnighter surely includes a hotel, the Renaissance Baronette was our go-to place. Pre-COVID, our last stay had more creature comforts. Regardless, Marty knows how to make a mean martini. Mixing old with new, we stopped at the nearby Carvana Kiosk before dinner at Plymouth’s Cantoro’s Trattoria. Cantoro’s, a favorite, has great food – once the food ordered is delivered. …perhaps, a story for a one-on-one! What’s a final trip round the block in Northville without confirming the Long Lived Legend of Batman and Robin sightings? Whenever close, the afterburner actuator kicked in and quickly we were dispatched. Next time, perhaps, we’ll catch the elusive Masked Crusader of Northville! Bill
